Bush Declares: 'We Do Not Torture'
President Bush vigorously defended U.S. interrogation practices in the war on terror Monday and lobbied against a congressional drive to outlaw torture. "There's an enemy that lurks and plots and plans and wants to hurt America again," Bush said. "So you bet we will aggressively pursue them but we will do so under the law." He declared, "We do not torture."
You don't torture, but you don't want to outlaw it. Why? Because you want to keep doing it? 'Cause you are, and you know you are, so why not stop bullshitting everyone and come clean? Oh, wait, I know - because Americans don't torture people, at least, not officially. That's something that other countries do, apparently.
Right.
It's like nuclear weapons - the U.S. doesn't want anyone else to have any, but it's okay if they keep several thousand on hand. Torture is evil except when the U.S. has to do it. Then it's not torture, it's 'advanced interrogation techniques'.
How can anyone support an administration that continues to promote and use torture? Somehow, it doesn't seem all that Christian.
